Energy for Education

A photovoltaic (PV) system has been installed in a rural Malika Higher Secondary School in the Matela VDC of Surkhet District where electricity is not available. The energy provided from the solar system is used to operate computers at the school, distribute portable solar lamps to students and residents of the village to provide light in their homes that will be supported for quality education and healthy environment. It will reduce the inhalation of toxic gases that kerosene portable lamps produce.  An agreement is signed with GSEP, a solar training for the engineers of Alternative Energy, solar companies and BNA is being organized at Himalayan Hotel, Kathmanndu during 10-14 December 2012. The engineers of Kansai Company Japan has facilitated the program where the representative of the GSEP Mr Luis Calzado, Nepal representatives of GSEP Mr Suman Basnet, Designer of the project Mr Niraj Subedi and Chairperson of BNA Mr Buddhi Subedi were also present in the training. The Executive Director of AEPC/ESAP Prof Dr Govinda Pokherel, Assistant Director Mr Ram Prasad Dhital had also made a presentations for the training program. The training was jointly organized by AEPC/ESAP and BNA.   The groundbreaking ceremony of the prject was completed in 16 December 2012. Inauguration of the Project:

The inauguration of Energy for Education program has been completed with different program on 19th of April 2013. The chief guest of the program Luis Calzado inaugurated the project. Two schools of Matela Malika Ma Vi and Nepall Rastriya Ma Vi has been suported. 785 Small Solar Home Systems of 5WP, 18 laptops with table and chiai is supported. Newly constructed computer lab with two rooms was also inaugurated. The computers are being backed up by 6KWP solar PV system in Malika and 780 WP Solar PV system in Nepal Rastriya Ma Vi. The program was chaired by Chairperson of Sundar Nepal Sanstha(BNA). Other guests of the program were Mr Suman Basnept Senior PV Advisor, designer of the project Mr Niraj Subedi, MD of SunTech Energy Mr Ganesh Shrestha, representative of Suryodaya Urja, Engineer of DDC Surkhet Mr Omdutta Regmi, Engineer of District Environment and Energy Unit Mr Premraj Pokhrel, Representative of District Education office Mr Chauhan Sing Rana, Ms Rama Bhandari Child Right Officer of District Child Welfare Board, LGCDP Coordinator, VDC Secretary of Matela, Leaders of political parties. Also present were the representatives of BNA, gaurdians, and students from both of the schools. 

 Small Solar Home System was distributed to the students and gaurdians during the program and the key of the computer lab and table were handed over to the SMC chairperson. Project completion/handover agreement was signed and cultural programs was also presented by the students stating that they are willing to read and do homework in SSHS and want to go for  computer education. For Detail please visit info on website of GSEP.
